How humour changes everything!

July 15, 2020

Humor is mankind’s greatest gift. - Mark Twain

But how often do we appreciate this greatest gift? And how often do we practice humour in our lives? And how many times have we felt grateful for the laughter we experience? Before we dwell on those questions, it’s important to ask: what does humor mean? “The quality of being amusing or comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech” and “a mood or state of mind” is Google's perspective. In fact as Tony Robbins suggests, a state is something that is cultivable, meaning, if we want to laugh more, be more comic and experience more humor, we surely can!

Humor has proven to be one of the best mediums to let loose the joy deep inside us, to channel the frustration or anger, and forget about the pain or burdens we carry. Comedians, artists and performers understand this gospel and know what significance humor can have on the lives of people. Stand up comedians have been channelizing it in its most direct form.

To speak and perform for us, we had Kevin Sam, a budding stand up comedian, at our Saturday League in July. Here are some thoughts Kevin had to offer!

  1. Do it for the glory of God: 1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God”. Checking our priorities is necessary and setting them right is even more important. It’s also crucial to seek the purpose to it.

  2. Look up to the right people: The power of having role models is absolutely resourceful. If the role models we choose have their foundations in place, their values in check and they do everything for God, modelling them is the best thing that we do.

  3. Do the things that you like: Doing what we love is the core of all of our success. Following our passion is the most heard advice when it comes to being successful. Not only are we satisfied when we do what we like/want to do, we are ever more grittier for the same.

Laughter is our reason for being. We need to appreciate it more and realize the eternal significance of this gift. The question is: are you allowing room for humour in your life today?
